Fifteen Crew Evacuated from Safe Bristolia

Fifteen non-essential crew out of 53 on board from Prosafe’s accommodation unit Safe Bristolia were airlifted to safety after a tow line snapped on Sunday leaving the unit adrift some 40 nautical miles west of Bergen, Norway, according to Norwegian New Agency (NTB).

The floatel was under tow on Sunday evening, October 26th by supply tug vessels BB Troll and Odin Viking in the North Sea.

The unit was heading for Bergen Group’s Hanoytangen yard for repairs.

It has been reported that the tow line snapped due to bad weather.

NTB reported that on Monday, October 27 the towing line was reattached and the operation resumed.

Safe Bristolia was built in 1983 and converted to a service/accommodation vessel in 2006. The rig offers accommodation for 316 (UKCS) to 587 persons.
