Flex LNG takes delivery of Flex Courageous LNG carrier

Flex LNG, the company controlled by billionaire John Fredriksen and an emerging player in the LNG shipping business, has taken delivery of its sixth LNG carrier – Flex Courageous.

Flex LNG said via social media that the Flex Courageous was delivered from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) on Tuesday.

The vessel is Flex LNG’s sixth vessel on the water with another five vessels set for delivery in 2020 and the remaining two in 2021 which – a fleet of 13 LNG carriers in total.

Flex Courageous is a large 173,400 cbm LNG carrier fitted with high pressure two stroke MEGI engine with a partial reliquefaction system bringing the boil-off rate to industry-low of 0.075%.

According to the social media announcement, Flex Courageous crew will now set course for its maiden voyage in the Pacific basin. Following this, the vessel will be available for employment in the fourth quarter for the upcoming winter.

It is worth reminding that the Flex Courageous was launched in December 2018 and started gas trials in mid-July 2019. The fifth LNG carrier, the Flex Constellation, was delivered to Flex LNG in early June of this year.

In connection with the delivery, the company utilized a $250 million bank facility to finance the Flex Constellation and Flex Courageous.
