GTT to Equip Samsung Heavy’s New LNG Carrier

South Korea’s shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has ordered Mark V technology to be installed aboard a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

French marine engineering company Gaztransport et Technigaz SA (GTT) was awarded the Mark V contract for the LNG carrier, which is scheduled to join its owner in 2019.

Ordered by a European shipowner, the vessel will be built at SHI’s shipyard in Goeje Island.

GTT ‘s Mark V can reduce the guaranteed daily boil-off rate to 0.07% of the tank volume, according to the company.

The new solution relies on a new metallic secondary membrane based on Fe36Ni (invar).

“With more than 227 equipped vessels in the world, of which 45 are under construction, the Mark technology is sea proven and acknowledged by the key players of the LNG industry,” GTT said.
