MTA TURKUAZ Launched in Turkey

Turkey’s first domestic production Seismic Research Vessel MTA TURKUAZ’s launching ceremony was held this Saturday, March 28.

The vessel is designed by SEFT Design Co. (SRV87), a Turkish vessel design company, and built by Istanbul Shipyard in Tuzla.

MTA TURKUAZ, 86 meters long and 23 meters wide, Turkey’s first indigenous seismic exploration ship, is said to had cost about $115 million.

SRV87 is designed to perform 2D/3D seismic research and sampling for hydrographic, hydro acoustic, geologic studies. It is equipped with diesel electric propulsion system, with a maximum continuous speed of 18 knots and an endurance range of 4500 nautical miles at economical speed of 14 knots.

The vessel is scheduled for oil exploration in the Black Sea following its inauguration ceremony.

The ceremony was held in Istanbul Shipyard in Tuzla, Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz and Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin also attended.
