Tenaris, a Luxembourg-headquartered manufacturer and supplier of steel pipe products and related services, has scored a double win for the third phase of Türkiye’s largest natural gas field development, building on its work on the earlier phases of the project.

As part of two contracts secured with Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO), Tenaris will supply seamless and welded pipes for multiple applications for Phase 3 of the Sakarya gas project located in water depths of approximately 2,150 meters, offshore Türkiye in the Black Sea.

The company will deliver 22,700 tons of seamless pipes for flowlines and for a 62-kilometer monoethylene glycol (MEG) pipeline, as well as 87,800 tons of welded pipes for a 180-kilometer export pipeline. Additionally, 7,700 tons of pipe will be supplied for production risers, MEG risers, and the export pipeline.

In Italy, the seamless pipes will be produced at Tenaris’s Dalmine mill and will include anode pads and buckle arrestors, along with TenarisShawcor three-layer polypropylene (3LPP) anticorrosion coating applied at the coating facility in Villamarzana.

The welded portion of the contract will be manufactured at Tenaris’s Confab mill in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, and will feature TenarisShawcor 3LPP anticorrosion coating and anode pads installation. A 1.2-kilometer section of the export pipeline will also include concrete weight coating to enhance stability.

According to the firm, both contracts are executed under Tenaris’s One Line service model, integrating pipe manufacturing with comprehensive pipeline solutions that include TenarisShawcor coating services.

Besides the pipeline scope, Tenaris said it would supply 10,000 tons of offshore drilling casing, partly coated with Dopeless technology, a mill-applied, high-performance, dry lubricant that simplifies handling.

“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with the TPAO on their most technically demanding offshore project to date,” said Olga Volkova, Tenaris Commercial Senior Director for Eastern Europe and the Caspian Sea. “Tenaris’s offshore solutions, used in projects like the Sakarya Gas Project, enhance efficiency and safety by providing run-ready pipes without entering the rig floor red zone.”

Sakarya is located about 170 kilometers off the coast of Filyos, Zonguldak. The third phase entails a new dedicated floating production unit (FPU), fed by 27 wells located in the Sakarya and Amasra fields, connected by a new trunkline to the onshore facility located in Filyos, on the Turkish Black Sea coast.

Subsea7 will deliver subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) for the project’s phase 3, with Saipem to deliver the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of eight rigid flowlines and a 24-inch diameter gas export pipeline (GEP), approximately 183 kilometers long.
