Report: Golden Ocean to Sell 7-Year-Old Capesize

Nasdaq-listed dry bulk shipping company Golden Ocean Group Limited has reached an agreement to sell its Capesize vessel Golden Opus to Songa Bulk, according to VesselsValue.

Norwegian shipowner Songa Bulk said in a listing on June 14 that it entered into an agreement to acquire a 180,706 dwt Capesize bulk carrier built in 2010 at STX in Korea. However, the company did not name the owner of the ship.

The vessel has been acquired at price of USD 28.85 million, slightly over the bulker’s current market value of USD 27.5 million.

Songa Bulk added that the vessel will be delivered during the third quarter of 2017, and that it plans to establish a wholly owned subsidiary to take delivery of the vessel.

World Maritime News contacted Golden Ocean Group for more details on the transaction, nevertheless, the company is yet to reply.

The 180,700 dwt bulker was part of Golden Ocean Group’s fleet of 62 bulk carriers, which in total features around 9 million dwt. The company has seven newbuildings on order, one of which is scheduled to join its fleet in 2017, while the remaining ships would be delivered during 2018.
