TGS to expand African multi-client library with new seismic survey

TGS, a provider of multi-client geoscience data to oil and gas companies, will further expand its NWAAM multi-client library with more than 11,000 kilometers of long-offset broadband 2D seismic data.

The expansion regards the Northwest African Atlantic Margin (NWAAM) area, more precisely the Mauritania-Senegal-Gambia-Bissau-Conakry (MSGBC) region.

The seismic player will, apart from the acquisition of 2D broadband seismic data in the mentioned areas, acquire magnetic and gravity data in Senegal and Gambia.

TGS said on Tuesday that the expansion would be done in cooperation with Petrosen in Senegal and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in Gambia.

The acquisition of this further phase of NWAAM 2017, done in collaboration with PGS and GeoPartners, has started and continues seamlessly from Phase 1.

The NWAAM2017 seismic survey has been designed to infill, extend and complement the TGS NWAAM2012 2D survey which helped with recent commercial discoveries in the MSGBC basin.

This survey is supported by industry funding and is being conducted using BGP’s Dong Fang Kan Tan 1 seismic vessel. The 12-kilometer deep-tow streamer will enable the recording of high quality broadband 2D seismic data, which will image the pre-rift, syn-rift, and post-rift plays evident in this basin.

Kristian Johansen, CEO for TGS, said: “This further expansion of our NWAAM data library confirms TGS’ continued commitment to the leading frontier basin in Africa. We are excited to be part of the ongoing exploration and upcoming development of this basin.”

The last 2D seismic acquisition made by TGS in the NWAAM area and MSGBC basin began in November 2016. The seismic program entailed the acquisition of 11,500 kilometers of long offset broadband 2D seismic data in the region as well as magnetic and gravity data in the Republic of Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and the AGC joint exploration zone between Guinea-Bissau and Senegal.
