MeyGen turbine produces first powertn-meygen-turbine-produces-first-power

Atlantis Resources has informed that the first power has been produced from the MeyGen project site in the Pentland Firth, Scotland. Both the turbine and cable installation works were completed by James Fisher Marine Services, using the Olympic Ares. This turbine is the first of four 1.5MW tidal stream turbines to become operational at the site for the first 6MW phase of a total build out of almost 400MW.

PTEC teams up with Schottel, Tocardo

Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre (PTEC) has partnered up with tidal turbine manufacturers Schottel Hydro, and Tocardo, who will deploy their technologies off the Isle of Wight, UK. The 30MW PTEC project will allow long-term operation of Schottel Hydro and Tocardo turbine arrays, simultaneously optimizing their performance and delivering reliable electricity to the grid.

EMEC, FORCE study marine coatings

The UK’s European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), and Canada’s Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) have kicked off a joint project looking at marine coatings behavior on either side of the Atlantic. The two marine energy test facilities will be working with Whitford, looking at differences in corrosion and underwater behavior of innovative marine coatings at both test centers.

Carnegie Wave Energy has formally launched its 15MW CETO Wave Hub project in the presence of UK government officials. First phase of the project, worth £14.7 million, involves the design, construction, installation and operation of a single 1MW grid-connected CETO 6 wave energy converter device, adapted to local conditions, and industrialized for large scale commercial deployment at Wave Hub test site in the UK.

AquaHarmonics scoops $1.5M US wave prizetn-aquaharmonics-scoops-usd-1-5-million-us-wave-prize-1

AquaHarmonics has been declared a winner of US Department of Energy’s Wave Energy Prize challenge, securing a $1.5 million cash prize. CalWave Power Technologies and Waveswing America were awarded second and third place, respectively, with $500,000 and $250,000 in cash prizes, following an 18-month long competition.
