Venture Global continues LNG spree with 20-year Mitsui deal

Venture Global, a U.S. producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) sourced from North American basins, has executed a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Japan’s Mitsui & Co.

As disclosed by the U.S. player, the deal provides for Mitsui’s purchase of 1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG from Venture Global for a period of 20 years, commencing in 2029.

“Venture Global is honored to announce our new partnership with Mitsui, a distinguished leader in the LNG industry, to further increase the flow of U.S. LNG to Japan and the global market,” said Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global.

“This collaboration between our two companies will strengthen energy security, enhance the balance of trade, and deepen the long-standing ties between our nations. This agreement builds upon our existing long-term relationships with Japanese companies, and we are deeply grateful for their continued trust in Venture Global.”

This comes on the heels of two long-term LNG deals the U.S. player recently inked with European players, one with Greece’s Atlantic-See LNG, and another with Spain’s Naturgy.

Venture Global operates three LNG facilities along the Gulf of America Coast of Louisiana. The first one, Calcasieu Pass, started production in January 2022. The second facility, Plaquemines LNG, followed suit in December 2024. The firm’s third facility, CP2 LNG, recently received the final export authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

A fourth LNG plant, CP3, is in the development stage. Located near Calcasieu and the CP2, this project is designed as a natural gas liquefaction and export facility. Once complete, it is expected to have an export capacity of at least 30 mtpa.
