Geosciences Expands UK Facilities

The Geosciences Laboratory has expanded in the past months since moving into Hewett Park on Great Yarmouth’s Gapton Hall Estate.

Before this only particle density and Atterberg limits were carried out, now they are capable of PSD testing (Particle Size Distribution) and sedimentation through the hydrometer method. Other additions are direct shear strength using the shearbox, consolidation oedometers and total stress triaxial testing. All this means that very little is externally tested.

Geosciences has extended into looking after the offshore laboratory testing and reporting, setting up of the offshore laboratory containers and staffing as well as backing up the offshore laboratory equipment with regular calibration checks and repair of apparatus.

It is now looking forward to adding the effective stress, constant rate of strain and carbonate analysis to their testing schedule with the expectation of being UKAS accredited by the end of this year.
