New Kid on the Block-Awilco Container

A new player on the container vessel market has been established this year -Awilco Container AS.

The latest market entrant is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Norwegian shipping company Awilco AS.

The Oslo-based container shipping company has bought four containerships as of September 11, the company’s data reveals.

The second-hand ships include 2010-built AS Mariana, AS Mariella and AS Morgana, and 2009-built AS Magnolia, each featuring TEU 4,395.

The company has also 50 percent ownership in two more containerships, the 4,250 TEU Zim Alabama and Zim Texas. The Marshall Islands-flagged duo was built by Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co.

Awilco Container joins Awilco Eco Tankers Holding AS,  Awilco LNG ASA, Awilco Drilling and Awilco Technical Services AS, which are part of Awilco AS.
