QGC funding Chinchilla Airport upgrade

Western Downs Regional Council and QGC, operator of the QCLNG project, have signed an agreement to upgrade Chinchilla Airport infrastructure. 

In the first of two phases, QGC, a unit of BG, will invest A$200,000 in an engineering design study to determine the level of maintenance required.

QGC has allocated a further A$4.5 million for a work program next year to strengthen the runway, improve runway lighting, upgrade terminal facilities and install a solar weather station to enhance the airport’s operability in poor weather.

The agreement for this work is part of the Queensland Curtis LNG Social Impact Management Plan, which is addressing impacts and maximising benefits from project construction during 2011-14, QGC said in a statement.
