Tidal Energy Project in Muskeget Channel Progresses

The 20 MW tidal energy project located on the east side of Martha’s Vineyard is progressing, the town of Edgartown, Mass, informed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

The 13 cross-axial helical tidal energy units will be positioned at a water depth between 100 and 160 feet in the Muskeget Channel.

The progress report of the project is an update of the Edgartown-Nantucket Tidal Energy Power Plant Project for which FERC issued a permit in August 2011.

The project would consist of as many as 50 tidal in-stream energy conversion (TISEC) units with a nameplate capacity of about 20 MW and an expected output of about 50 GWH per year in the desired currents, Electric Light and Power reported.
