UAE: Jebel Ali Port Welcomes MV CSCL Uranus

DP World’s Jebel Ali Port has welcomed for the first time China Shipping Container Lines’ (CSCL) giant new addition to its service linking the UAE with China and the Far East, the MV CSCL Uranus.

To mark the vessel’s maiden call to Jebel Ali, a red carpet welcome ceremony greeted the captain and crew of the 14,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container units) mega vessel. Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, presented a plaque to Mr. Victor Mykhaylov, Master of MV CSCL Uranus, marking the occasion. The function was attended by HE Zhan Jingbao, Consul General, People’s Republic of China in Dubai, Captain Wan Jun, President, China Shipping (West Asia) Holding, senior officials from DP World and representatives of shipping lines.

Jebel Ali is one of the few global ports with proven ability to handle mega container ships such as CSCL Uranus, which is 366 metres long and 51 metres wide. The port management rolled out a meticulous plan to discharge and load the vessel with clockwork precision with its highly trained workforce and state-of-the-art terminal technology, including Super Post Panamax (SPP) cranes to ensure top turnaround times.

China Shipping (West Asia) Holding DMCEST operates a weekly service between Tianjin in China, Far East Asia and Jebel Ali – one of the busiest trade routes between the Far East and the GCC region. Adding the CSCL Uranus brings welcome new capacity to the service. The company, an affiliate of Shanghai-based China Shipping (Group) Company, has been a partner of DP World since 2001.
