Five Cat C175-16 generator sets, each with rated power of 1930 bkW at 1200 rpm, will be used as the prime power for each jackup while 1x Cat C32 generator set providing emergency power. The newbuilds are currently under construction at Shanhaiguan Shipyard in China and the units will be delivered over the course of the next 2 years. Cat dealer WesTrac China led Caterpillar’s efforts on the project. The Cat C175-16 generator set will be on display at the Caterpillar booth at the 2014 CIPPE Show, March 19th – 21st in Beijing, China.

“The Cat C175-16 generator set is the power solutions of choice for offshore jackup rigs in the region,”  Tim Tian, Caterpillar Oil & Gas Asia Pacific – China dealer sales territory manager noted, “Along with the reliable power of the Cat C175-16, Cat dealer Westrac China has been able to deliver outstanding service and support to both the customer and the shipyard.”

The Cat C175-16 is ideal for customers seeking a high power density and lower emissions offshore drilling module. Offering 20 percent more installed power than previous models, the Cat C175-16 allows for deeper drilling and higher mud pump loading. Its compact footprint offers significant weight savings when compared to medium speed engines and allows for retrofit with today’s Cat 3516C HD module design. In addition, its full featured control system provides for easy interface with the local rig network, and can be controlled and monitored remotely.

The Cat C175-16 is also highly fuel efficient, incorporating a fuel system that uses a high pressure fuel pump and control valve that deliver multiple precise injections within a single combustion event. This results in lower emissions, improved performance and reduced fuel consumption. Driven by the ADEM™ A4 controller, the Cat C175-16 engine management system features full redundancy and provides superior performance, even in the most demanding environments. The fuel system directly impacts customers overall owning and operating costs as the fuel consumption has been optimized for typical drilling load.
