According to NTE, this represents a significant step forward for zero emissions in the maritime sector as the plant is the first hydrogen production, storage and bunkering facility for ships in Norway.

“Our ambition at NTE is to create a climate-neutral society, where our hydrogen commitment plays a crucial role in realizing this vision,” NTE said, adding that the company plans to build a larger network of hydrogen plants in Norway.

NTE, a power company serving Nord-Trøndelag county, is said to be one of the largest producers of electricity in Norway. Besides being involved in green hydrogen production, the company is also developing offshore wind projects.

To note, 2024 has gotten off to a busy start for Norway’s energy sector, with the latest news coming from HAV Hydrogen, a subsidiary of HAV Group. The company has received NOK 12.4 million (around $1.18 million) in funding from Innovation Norway to build, test and certify a full-scale prototype of a containerized hydrogen energy system for ships called Zero Emission Pod.
